The new revamped site has this beautiful bird as a background - the male Namaqua Sandgrouse (Pterocles namaqua). This photo was taken near Laingsburg in the Karoo when the birds came in to drink at a water trough early in the morning. They landed a little way off and the scurried closer to where the water leaked out on the ground at the trough. The group of birds consisted of 2 males and 3 females. After drinking they flew off calling their unmistakeable ki-ki-vee (in Afrikaans the bird is called the "Kelkiewyn" - an imitation of the call.)
